Boulders Beach – another overdue first (of sorts)

Have I mentioned before that I didn’t get out much when I lived in Cape Town? Partly because I was a student but mostly because I was a wallflower & didn’t really move far off what I called “my triangle” namely UCT, Cavendish and home (read more about my sheltered life here). So it seems sacrilegious to say that I haven’t been to Boulders Beach before (well not that I can remember anyway….)

First things first – the house rules.

The beach gets its name from the huge rocks on its banks but is most famous for its cute residents. They’re cute but they can bite so don’t dare touch or feed them!

The colony has been on steep decline leading to African penguins being declared an endangered species in 2010.

Just another average day in my home town 🙂

In penguin-world its ok to groom yourself in public 🙂

Boulders beach is a popular spot for families with young kids – too cute seeing them ogle at the penguins. There are loads of restaurants and B&B’s in the area & almost all have a great view. Or for a day trip you can picnic on the beach. Make sure you go in low tide so you can spot as many of these cuties as possible.
