15 on Orange – luxury in the city…

Almost all my trips to Cape Town are a complete surprise to me but the last one was the most decadent ever! This is overdue but over the next couple of posts I’ll take you through what we got up to and I just want to say upfront you may hate me a little…

First stop from the airport despite all the “sooooooooo, where are we staying?” from the night before (when I found out we were going) right till on the plane on the day, didn’t help. I kept guessing even while we were driving from the airport to the hotel but when I could tell we were headed in the direction of the CBD I gave up – I mean there are dozens upon dozens of hotels…

So we pull up at 15 on Orange and I’m excited & sufficiently surprised but I didn’t know what to expect as I’d never been there at all before… We had a very efficient check in and made our way to our room…

You know your room’s going to be huge when there’s a super long passage way when you open the door to get to the actual room 🙂

Space! 🙂

 A separate lounge area…

This will do…

We’d been booked in on a special that was running (I wasn’t privy to the exact details) but it didn’t include any meals which (I later found out) which worked out well for us as we had plans for every single meal & hour that we were in Cape Town. Amazing & exhausting…

Lust

  • Space. You’ll hear me say this time & again but space is the ultimate luxury. We were upgraded to a suite on check in and this was one of the largest rooms I’ve ever stayed it.
  • The view from out room – scroll down to see what I mean…

Love

  • We’ve always preferred staying hotels in the city in Cape Town (in fact we live in the City in Jhb too if you didn’t know). I just love the buzz & the energy and 15 on Orange is very well located within the CBD in the Gardens area. It’s an easy walk to Kloof Street & Long Street lined with restaurants – another one of my favourite things – just leaving the car at the hotel & setting off on foot…
  • I also have to mention we had good service throughout our stay from all the staff we interacted with at the front desk, in the car park or even just in the corridors. And we got a late check out on request too…

Loathe

  • The only thing that annoyed me immensely was the wi – fi. It was capped (I can’t remember what the daily limit was) but my husband & I each have 2 smart phones a laptop and a tablet so it wasn’t nearly enough even though we were not in the hotel the majority of the time. For a hotel with this level of luxury wi-fi should be free & uncapped…

Chilled non alcoholic champagne – major bonus points for getting it right…

Yup. This would be tough to top…

Really different/interesting layout in the bathroom with a walk-in shower too…

Like I said our itinerary was jam-packed so on the downside that meant we didn’t get to spend all that much time at the hotel. Crazy but we even didn’t eat a morsel of food there, not even as much as a cup of coffee. I did take a quick walk around the rest of the hotel while the hotel while the hubby was sorting out some admin at the front desk…

While I loved our room, the rest of the hotel’s décor isn’t quite to my taste  – you have to check out the infamous Ferrero Rocher  sofa inside the elevator!

So yeah all in all, great stay but I’m going to have to go back soon to sample the food and all the facilities (the pool, gym (who am I kidding?!) and mostly the spa look ah-mazing!).

If I ran the place

  • Uncapped wi-fi please!

Need to know

  • They also have regular packages running and also check for events like Sunday Lunch, Shisa Nyama /Urban Braai lunch or dinner and the Macaroon & Sorbet Workshop (how divine does that sound?!)…

15 on Orange made for a very comfy luxe stay in Cape Town indeed…

Check back soon to see what we got up to for the rest of our stay. Clue: I had a food baby! 🙂
