Photo post: Victoria Falls

When I found myself really, really torn about the last overpriced (business class!) seat on a flight to Vic Falls I realised just how much I wanted to go.

Ironically we went a few weeks ago at the height of all the xenophobic violence in SA. I felt more than a bit bad being there, hoping no one would ask where we’re from but each time I did I got “oh Joburg – I haven’t been but I really want to move there/visit my family who’s moved there/find a job there”. And always with the biggest smile making me feel even more guilty.

We stayed at the Elephant Hills Hotel which really wasn’t memorable but was a convenient 10 minutes/4kms away from The Falls with a complimentary hotel shuttle. Ok I lie our room had a great view over the Zambezi River & the prawns & chips were unexpectedly good so much so I had it for dinner twice in a row. The room was pretty small (probably standard hotel size honestly) & needed a revamp a few years back.

Raincoats are for hire outside the entrance to The Falls for $3 but they really serve no purpose – you will be drenched to your undies. My shoes broke about a third of the way in & my sunscreen was dripping off my face burning my eyes (on that note a make up free day is a must). Wear something light & just surrender to the mist/rain & enjoy the view – I have never taken a more beautiful walk in my life. And I don’t recommend taking any electronics unless they’re of the waterproof variety. I have no idea how our phones even made it out of there but I am glad I have a few pics to share.

A super, super quick in & out trip was worth it & these pictures won’t nearly do it justice. It is magnificent & you wont understand till you see it in person.

Aching to go back with a lot more time on hand & see the rest of Zim soon.

PS business class on this flight (SAA) is not worth the premium at all. Better food definitely & proper cutlery/crockery but no extra leg room at all (I’m 1.78m) so plan better than I did!
