I’m starting something new on the food front over here. Sometimes I just want to tell you about something so insanely delicious that it immediately goes on my mental list of “I-have-to-come-back-here-asap-&-get a whole-lot-more-of this-stuff” as soon as I’m a few bites in. And by the end of the meal it takes a good amount of self-restraint not to lick the plate. I’ll still do the normal restaurant reviews but think of these as more of a quickie. I have at least 10/12 of these dishes/meals floating around my head so keep a lookout for more “Eat This” posts soon…
I ordered Park Cafe‘s Creamy Seasonal Mushrooms on Toast with Parmesan unassumingly a while back & it was so, so good that I’ve probably gone back for it half a dozen times since. Being relegated to the (slim) bacon free section of the breakfast menu I’d certainly had very similar breakfasts by almost the same name in a few places but none were memorable until I devoured Park Cafe‘s version.
This dish is really about the sauce. It’s incredibly flavourful & I can taste the cream, garlic, parsley & chives all steaming on my plate. The ciabatta’s perfectly toasted & crispy & there’s a lot of it (I ain’t banting!)….
It’s a sizeable portion for R75 so definitely go hungry as it doesn’t reheat well (to be expected – I did try once). Top it with lots of freshly ground black pepper.
Tip: save some of the bread to mop up every last bit of that sauce. You’re not going to want to waste any of it.
And if you take your coffee seriously they won’t leave you disappointed on that front either.
The only downside here is that this was the meal I ordered the very first time I went to Park Café & every single time since. I just can’t risk trying anything else on the menu for fear of it not living up to this deliciousness. First world problems indeed. As soon as Ramadaan’s over this is going to be one of my first meals out!
