Warm & Glad – food, media culture & coffee

I know I start at least half my blog posts like this but I had been meaning to go to Warm & Glad (W&G) forever and thank goodness for my blogger friend Pippa J who arranged a meeting there a while back or I probably still wouldn’t have been (thanks Pippa!). We had our meeting over drinks I rushed

Belle Terrasse restaurant at The Westcliff

Literally just before the news hit that the five-star Westcliff would be no more, we headed over to their Belle Terrasse restaurant on a date night and a bit of a celebration of the hubby’s new job. The Westcliff has to go down as one of the most iconic hotels in Jozi and in

Sel et Poivre

I visited Sel et Poivre [sell] [e] [pwa:vr] (translated meaning salt & pepper) a little while ago for a bit of a celebratory night out & if I’m honest the only reason it’s taken this long to get the review out is because I was expecting more. A  French fine dining restaurant at the 4

Detour Espresso Bar – coffee with a view

Marck Barter is living the dream.  He works around 5 hours a day and surfs for the rest of the day. In his own words “I start serving coffee at 7 and by 12:30 I’m in the water”. And then he has this for an office… We were taking a peninsula drive when we

Win tickets to Delicious – an international food & music festival coming to SA!

We may not have the mountain or the sea but we can’t argue that Jozi has loads happening on the foodie scene. That said I do think it’s become more of the same recently but when I saw the TV ad for the Delicious it really got my attention. Two things we’re huge on as

Test Kitchen – you ain’t tasted nothing yet…

Luke Dale-Roberts’ Test Kitchen has been on our to do eat list for some time now. When we were down in Cape Town over December for an extended vacation I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally tick this box but they were booked out till February. FEBRUARY! I kid you not. Now I’d heard that they

Father – the cool coffee on the block…

I realise I say this a lot but I finally made my way down to the new(ish) Father, an espresso bar & roastery down in Braamfontein yesterday. A friend was in town visiting for the day so it was the perfect excuse to find a cosy spot to catch up… When we step into Father off the

Tribeca Standard – a little substandard…

In Pretoria for the day on Saturday, I decided to make the most of it and have a long, late lazy lunch at a favourite spot, Tribeca Standard. I actually frequent their other branch, Tribeca Brooklyn more but when we arrived they were closed for renovations (and I really wanted their sweet corn fritters so badly!).

Lucky Bread Company – carbs + coffee = irresistible

Occasionally we make the trek out to Pretoria for a change of scenery and this weekend it was to check out the Lucky Bread Company. This quirky little spot (I’m not sure what else to call it, it’s not really a restaurant, they don’t have a kitchen) grabs your attention as soon as you see it

The crois-nut craze hits Jozi

Belle’s Patisserie needs no introduction but several lunches later, I’m really not sure why I haven’t blogged about them before. They supply most of Jozi’s coffee shops and restaurants (well the good ones) with their cakes and confectionery. Chances are if you live in Gauteng, you’ve had Belle’s before. They’ve had a teaser going all week
