I love my hair

Last week I co hosted a session at Social Media Week Johannesburg . The topic was “how the internet is democratizing black hair care in South Africa”.

I can’t begin to tell you the depth & breath of what we talked about. I’m not going to do it an ounce of justice. I will say this… It’s a discussion so much bigger than hair that involves our schools, boardrooms & the very complex history of this country. I only wish we’d video recorded it so I could go back, rewind, pause & think some more…

While this blog (from hair perspective) focuses on practical things reviews, salon trips, hair events etc. i.e. the fun stuff, I do often & regularly think more deeply about my hair. I’m not going to get into all the soul baring details again but read my hair story if you haven’t already.

As my fro grows, becomes bigger,  more work & has me hot & bothered even though Summer has only just started (I’ve taken up running recently) she’s also harder to ignore (I like wearing her “out”), making me take up the back seat in a room where there’s a presentation & getting a few (mostly complimentary) glances. Still, to the haters, I say…

Thanks to Miss Milli B for sharing this on the day. Five million views later I hope every mom & daughter watch this – ideally together. By the end of this clip my soul felt a little soothed.

Special thanks for a reader Annamarie Martin who was in up from CT and made a point to come along last Friday. It was great meeting you. I’m really glad you braved Jhb CBD to come…

Be kind to your hair,
