So I’m a total novice at this running thing and I only have 1 good pair of shoes (the prettiest Pegasus 30) & now that I’m really getting into it I want a second pair but I’m constantly wondering if I’m even wearing the right ones to start off with. So when I was in Eastgate recently, instead of staring into the Nike shop window aimlessly like I usually do I decided to pop in & ask them.
I expected them to try & sell me another pair of trainers but to my surprise we walked right pass the shelf & they led me to the back of the store where all of this was tucked away…
Who knew right?!
I wasn’t dressed for it at all but all I needed to do was get on the treadmill & run (slowly is fine) for less than two minutes and I had the answer I needed. Basically I need a neutral shoe (which my Pegasus 30 is) so I’m relieved I’m on the right track.
I also have a (now healed) old ankle injury from when I was on honeymoon in Bali (did you ever think it was possible to get a ankle injury from swimming?). So because I remember that pain all too well, I really want to make sure I get the right shoes (I’d rather skimp on apparel if I need to) because I just couldn’t bear to be back in that hobbling-on-one-foot-ever phase ever again….
They also let me know that Rosebank is their other dedicated running store in Gauteng (with similar equipment), so you can pop into either if you’d like advice on shoes. While I was there I was also reminded of the (weekly, free & open to all fitness levels) Nike Running Club – they even have lockers.
