We found her!!!
We don’t have a name yet as you’ve guessed by now but she is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s! I knew immediately she was the one I wanted so I held my breathe while I waited to find out 1) if she was a girl & 2) if she was available & my heart did a little black flip when the staff came back with a yes on both counts…
We found her at a kitty shelter Cataholics in Parkwood after the SPCA had a major waiting list. Cataholics is a non-profit welfare organization (read no government funding) that’s been going for over 14 years. They had loads of kittens and it feels like they get in a delivery every week by the look of their Facebook page (it is kitten season apparently). It’s an old house that’s been fully converted into a shelter with several enclosures in each room. They’re home to several cats who cannot be adopted/need special care and also offer boarding & have a pet store – their main source of income.
Adoption costs R500 which includes the first 2 vaccinations and a voucher for sterilization (at 5 months). She’s still too tiny to come home but I’m visiting her almost daily. This litter & their mom were found in a box in an abandoned field. I know that that’s hardly a unique story but it’s still majorly heart breaking.
Tiny as she is, she’s so, so feisty. I watched he fight her brothers & sisters to drink from her mom (let’s just say there are too many kittens & too few teats) and she can definitely stand her ground. Oh & she’s completely oblivious to me even though I have been a few times now to play with her. She’s basically just meows until I put I back in the kitten run! Instead of feeling rejected I’m reminding myself that this is why I love cats! 🙂
Here’s a look around the rest of the shelter…
She even melted my dog person’s heart!
Chilling with her brothers & sisters…
On my last visit the staff told me that someone else had visited and was very keen on her. Without hesitation, I would track that person down and steal my kitty back if they gave her away! Luckily they let them know she’s booked and definitely found a home. We’re getting our place ready for as much as we can & buying in everything she needs – so exciting! As much as I want her to come home already I can tell that she really still needs her mom so I am happy for her to take all the time she needs to be healthy & strong.
Expect heaps of kitty pictures – I apologise in advance!
PS if you’re keen on adopting, find out more here & virtual adoptions are also available if you’re not able to take one home.
