So a “fresh face mask” was a new concept for me and that alone meant I had to try it. I also (still) have a little obsession with exfoliators (face & body) so obviously I asked the lovely Lush people for a recommendation on an exfoliating face mask.
Enter Love Lettuce.
As soon as I saw it I also remembered that my blogger friend Tiana over at Awkward Purse actually also recommended it some time ago.
So what’s the deal with Lush’s fresh face masks? Well it’s just that. They’re fresh & made in-store (everything else is made in England I think) so you can’t order them online at all. In-store they’re on an ice display (kinda like the fish counter at the deli). So how the heck was I going to fly this back to Jhb with me? I tried to convince A that we should make a last stop at the mall en route to the airport so I could pick up the mask just before we flew out of Durban. He wasn’t having it. Something about I wouldn’t get up in time/not wanting to risk the flight/I don’t remember. He is the most unpunctual person ever except when i comes to 2 things: movies & flight – then we’re embarrassingly early.
So long story short I kept the mask in the hotel’s bar fridge in our room (with a big “do not throw this away” sign attached in case house keeping got any ideas). Before we left for the airport I ordered an ice bucket, tossed the cubes & mask into a plastic bag (pre checked to be free of holes). By the time I was seated on the plane the ice had melted and I smiled sweetly at the hosted asking if she could keep it somewhere cool. I hoped off the plane & raced home forgoing my obligatory stop for a coffee at Woolies at OR. I slammed the fridge shut & relief.
Lush can you just come to Jozi already? The levels of ridiculousness is getting out of hand here.
Ok we’re over 300 words in. Let me get to the mask. It’s for normal to oily skin. It looks like luminous green, sandy mud & you can smell the lavender immediately. Whether I’m wearing make up or not I’d always wash my face first and then apply the mask while first while I get to the rest of my business in the shower. Before rinsing off completely (10-15 minutes later) I’ll take my wet hands to my face with a little warm water & go in for the scrub.
- It goes on cold (i.e. from the fridge) so that along with the soothing (100% pure French) lavender makes it soothing & cooling in Summer
- As usual, its packed with (mainly natural) stellar ingredients: agar agar (i.e. seaweed) gel (giving the green colour), kaolin (cleansing & absorbing clay), honey (moisturising & antiseptic), lavender & a new one for me, fuller searth (a anew one for me – absorbent & cleansing).
- It has just the right level of exfoliation for me (I like it rough) courtesy of ground almonds & ground almond shells
Unfortunately mine went off before I could finish the tub – I may/may not forgotten to put it back in the fridge.
Lush’s Love Lettuce (& all their fresh face masks) will cost you for R125 for 75g. Get it here.
