The Feminist Stovkel presents: Texture Discrimination – The Problem with Kaff*r Hare
Guys, even just typing the subject of this post… So. Many. Emotions. But we’re going there. We need to…
I visited the venue for our upcoming third Hair Soiree, The Women’s Gaol (Jail) at Constitution Hill for the first time today (I’m more than a little ashamed since I lived 2kms away for 3 years) – an incredibly powerful & sobering space.
PS if you can’t make the Soiree (boo!) Constitution Hill is offering free tours to the youth (that’s under 35 they say) all month – go!
Here you go – hot off the Feminist Stokvel’s desk…

For our third Hair Soiree, the Feminist Stovkel ventures into the dangerous terrain of Texture Discrimination where we unpack how whiteness impacts on the way we see, name and treat ourselves, our natural hair and each other. It divides women in the natural community, and holds up a particular kind of curly hair as the holy grail.
Join us for session of story sharing, debate and informative black girl healing. On the 27th of June, we will officially be saying a giant ‘Bye Felicia’ to the term ‘k*ffir hare’ and other such nonsense, and championing all forms of textured black girl slayage.
Get your tickets here and mail us if you have any questions.
Be kind to your hair!

Wow. White supremacist aesthetic ideals about hair? Is that a thing?! I have spent my whole life wishing I could rock an authentic ‘fro!!
Meea,
Its a BIG thing. I wish it wasn’t.

Can I express how utterly gutted I am about not having attended this event or any of the FS events this year. Is there a place where I can subscribe? On a side note, I 100% adore your blog. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, no matter how ‘uncouth’ ;). All the best for the new year.
