So I’ve been thinking about how to mix things up a little re hair products (aka reviews). There are soooooooooooo many products out there and the thought of having to tell y’all every detail of every single one of them I try feels, well boring (for you and for me that is!)
So, in the spirit of trying new things I thought I’d talk a bit about my last washday (last week Thursday & Friday). I’d just taken down a protective style that I got on a whim (& lasted all of 3 days lolz!) and due to bad planning I’d had it done on the day I was meant to wash. So ya by day 3 I was missing my fro a lot and feeling like I wanted to show it lotsa love, hence the luxe washday…
Inoar Argan Oil Hydration Shampoo – Ah Inoar – Brasil’s gift to us. Their entire lineup is for professional use and quite concentrated. This product’s been in my bathroom a long, long time. It’s not sulphate free so I used it to do my monthly clarify as well. That said, it lives up to its name and isn’t drying at all (probably the high concentration argan oil – its the 5th listed ingredient).
I did a double deep conditioning (DC) for the first time in a very long time. I don’t think I’ll do this on every washday and I know hairdressers would probably roll their eyes at me and tell me I’m wasting product, but this works for me.
Inoar Argan Oil Mask – this is about as luxe as it gets. I used it for my the protein portion of my DC but it does contain some moisturising ingredients as well. Again, argon oil is the 5th listed ingredient. I kept it on for an hour (shower cap & does obvs). This stuff is thick and creamy so I’m always sure to leave enough water in my hair for it to spread well. This is a great example of a product that does contain mineral oil, but I still love. I’m basically treating this stuff like gold and have maybe 1 DC application left in the tub!
As I Am’s Hydration Elation – I know you know protein must be followed up with moisture and this here was my choice of it. I through a friend (hey Danni!) off Amazon on a US trip. Think coconut, shea butter, green tea and vitamin E… It’s probably the most moisturising DC I have ever used. And thats a bold statement for me. I decided to sleep with it on overnight and cold rinsed in the morning. I have also used it on its own too and it’s really, really good. If there’s a brand thats top of my list that needs to come SA, As I Am is it!
Curl Chemistry Curl Activating Cream – you may or may not have already heard me go on and on (& on & on) about this product online. I think of it as a leave-in conditioner with a little bit of gel in it. It smells amazing, you don’t need a lot of it and it helps my curls form and hold better than it normally would on it’s own. Every natural should have this is their arsenal – did I mention its R95?!
As I am’s Curling Jelly – ah my beloved As I Am. I haven’t used a product from this brand that I didn’t love. I wasn’t always a believer in styling products except for some leave-in and a touch of oil but I decided to give it another go and I’m so glad I did. The curls are there. The hold is there. And somehow miraculously theres zero crunch and residue. To the touch it almost feels like there’s nothing on my hair and that, to me is pretty much perfection.
Madam CJ Walker Brassica Seed Scent & Shine Oil – husbaend picked this up from Sephora on one his trips – Washington I think. Honestly I’d never heard of the brand before. It definitely delivers on the scent promise but I guess when it comes to shine I’ll probably never be happy. It’s actually quite versatile according to the brand and can be used as a pre poo and heat protectant as well. It’s also silicone free, which is very rare for an oil, so its bae.
PS I will still do some of my regular products reviews let me know what you think of this format. More of this or nah? I’m thinking of blogging my next washday with only local products…
Be kind to your hair!
