I really need to do a separate post about why it took me so damn long (it’s actually quite complex) but hey I did it!
A couple if weeks ago Shelene (co owner) from Tanaz mentioned they wanted to open a braid bar but needed lots of practice and would I mind to come in so they can play around on my hair a bit. Since I’d been mulling it over in my head for some time already, I of course replied hell to the yes and was back there sooner than they probably wanted!
Both times my hair was done by the sweet Tinny at from Tanaz. The first time I went for a more quick and simple protective style – which I kept in for 3 days (don’t you dare LOL at me!).
Since that went well, I went back a second time soon thereafter and with my inspo pics in hand (& some better planning)…
I love way the hair is parted in triangles… (reminds of of those Bantu knots I once had)
The one & only @QueenofJozi (more like the Queen of slayage!) This colour!!!
PS I accidentally deleted all my pics (every. single. one) off my phone when I got home from the salon, so I literally had to go back and screenshot my own insta stories for these pics. Like, I really don’t know how I managed to do that. Does shizz like this only happen to me?!
- I went to Hair City and bought my Xpressions fibre. We’d estimated that I’d need 3 packs but I got 4 just in case and we used just about all of it.
- I bought two packs of #30 and 2 packs of #33
- I washed (DC-ed & LCO-ed) my hair on the Sunday before (I had this done on the following Tuesday)
- So I arrived at the salon with slightly damp (refreshed) day 3 curls which Tinny loosely blow dried for less than a minute (just to get it dry, not straight)
By this time I really trusted Tinny. She totally got my priorities (it wasn’t tight etc. etc.) and she kept checking in with me whole time if I was cool…
The final look (+-5 hrs later)…
It actually didn’t feel that long sitting in the chair because 1) good wifi 2) tea and 3) updating insta stories was so damn fun! So how long am I going to keep this in? Well as you read this I’m on day 16 and you have no idea how much of an accomplishment that is for me. I did have a tiny I-miss-my-fro meltdown on Sunday but I persevered and it passed (thank you Lee, Andrea and Sharon!). So yeah, we’ll see.
Tanaz‘s braid bar opens the 1st August (yes that’s next week!). They’re at 51 Corlett Drive Illovo (very close to BluBird Centre and Melrose Arch) & are open 6 days a week (closed Sundays) & till 9pm every Wednesday. They’re on +27 (0) 11 786 2976 – full info over here.
Be kind to your hair!
