Photo post: Our favourite coffee spot in Jozi…
You may or may not know I married a coffee connoisseur snob and without a doubt Bean There at 44 Stanley is our favourite, favourite place in Jozi to grab coffee as often as we can. I would still be drinking Jacobs if it wasn’t for A but all instant coffee is banned from our house!
Bean There feels like family, so much so that we had our baby shower there earlier this year. The place just feels like home. We know the baristas by name. It’s literally 5 minutes from our place. They open nice & early at 7:30am weekdays & the team are so down to earth. Even though I don’t know that much about coffee, I never feel intimidated and “not hipster enough” to be there. Its so long ago now that I nearly forgot but one year Cuth from the Bean There team helped me pull off a really epic birthday gift for A (coz what do you get the person who has everything?!) by personally taking hm around al of Jhb on a coffee tour for a full day!
What makes Bean There stand out is that they’re SA’s first roaster of certified fair trade coffee. There’s something satisfyingly sweet about supporting a business that lifts and supports the communities they operate in. All the beans are single origin (as opposed to blends) so you get a true & pure taste from each individual country/region & its roasted in small batches.
I tagged along A last week because he had to do a shoot there for a campaign. I never get tired of instagramming the space. I mean. Would. You. Look. At. It…
We also regularly buy (freshly roasted) beans while we’re there and they stock a myriad of coffee paraphernalia (free online delivery over R300) like chemexes, plungers, eco/travel cups, grinders, bespoke coffee machines, books etc. (You can also get their beans at selected PnP’s, Spars and Dischems). They have a 10/12 seater (can’t remember exactly) private meeting room you can hire out by the hour which A loves to do with his team. If you’re a coffee person their coffee cupping sessions or one of their courses are a must. There’s a very small but oh-so-cute garden in the back which is one of my favourite places to just chill & have a cuppa.
If you’re not in Jhb, hey also have a pretty cute store in Cape Town I’ve popped into a few times and another branch in Braam I had no idea about!
PS All these pics were captured and edited on the go with my Samsung S8 (last birthday prezzie from A). Not bad hey?
Love you long time Bean There…
