I mentioned to you guys that I’d be interviewing some bloggers here on Wiscellaneous & I’m excited to bring you the first installment today!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tendayi from Africanhairblog twice now & she’s so passionate about all things hair! She has a quiet confidence that I really admire & she’s just so easy to relate to. Here’s part one of my interview with her – I was keen to find out more about who she is on a personal level & what motivates her.
I know you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did, be sure to catch part 2 which I’ll post soon 🙂
Tendayi’s wearing her hair in her protective style of choice (braids) right now.
Q1: What inspired you to start your Africanhairblog? Why a hair blog?
I have always been interested in hair and had been frequenting blogs and hair forums for some time. What frustrated me was that they were usually not written by people in Africa and often spoke of or recommended products that I didn’t have access to. I decided to start my own blog that reflected what I was looking for as well as allowed me to share everything that I was learning. I also started the blog so I could use it as a diary to document my progress (or lack thereof).
Q2: Tell us a bit about you. Outside of the blog, who is Tendayi?
I am a wife and mum in my late thirties. I am a Zimbabwean living in Pretoria, South Africa. I love to travel to new places. I love to read widely (books, newspapers, magazines). I have an insane number of magazines at home! I also watch a lot of TV!
Q3: Africanhairblog just turned 2 – congrats! Tendayi you’re a busy mom. How do you juggle it all & still find time to blog regularly?
It’s not easy. I blog when I have the time – while the kids are at school and at night. Sometimes I write posts in advance and then post them after a few days or so. However busy I get though I try not to blog on weekends.
Q 4: When do get to have some down time, what are some of the things you like doing to relax?
I use weekends for downtime. I do not blog on weekends and I also try to stay away from social media. I enjoy spending time with my family – travelling and doing fun stuff with the kids.
Q5: What’s the one hair question you get asked the most by readers?
The most common question I get asked is – ‘My hair doesn’t grow, what can I do to make it grow?’
Q6: Looking back over the last 2 years you’ve done so many things from being on 3rd Degree to the cover of Destiny Magazine what has been the personal highlight of your blogging career?
Being one of the women on the cover of the November 2011 Destiny Magazine was really fun. I had never done anything like that before. I loved everything about it – wardrobe, accessories, makeup and hair! The month after the photo shoot while I waited for the magazine to come out was torture. That’s something I will never forget. I have a few sealed copies I’ve kept for my grandchildren!
Part 2 to follow soon where we talk about Tendayi’s own hair goals, her hair crush & her thoughts on going natural…
You can catch up with Tendayi on her blog, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
Be kind to your hair!
