Last night I went along to Randlords for the first brand-ed event of the year. I was really looking forward to it because of the venue & I’d been to a branded event before so I knew they were just generally awesome, well organised & packed with fantastic women – both in attendance & those presenting. I set my GPS & was delighted to see that it was a mere 1,7 kms from home & got there in 4 minutes despite it being peak hour – fabulous!
Randlords is a plush laid back venue in the heart of Jozi in Braamies on the 22nd floor of South Point Towers.
Randlords is an amaaazing advert for Jozi CBD (not that I believe she needs one!) & was even better than I’d imagined in my mind. Think state-of-the art cocktail bar, floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall glass, a sommelier chosen wine list & distinctive, flavourful tapas, all while you’re soaking up 360′ panoramic view of the city.
The view over the west of Jozi…
I got there around 6pm (just in time for sunset) & I made my way out to the deck. It’d been a rainy coldish day all yesterday but lucky for us the rain let up a bit so we could head outside to have a proper look. I really love Jozi rain (very different to Cape Town rain) & it felt like the city had been freshly washed & served up squeaky clean just for us. Even these pics (& a took a million of them & couldn’t choose which ones to post) don’t truly do the view justice. You really need to see this with your own eyes to fully appreciate it.
Carmen Dell, one of the 3 founders of brand-ed, with Anne Powers
We settled into the evening with the 1st guest presenter, Anne Powers a 50-something (ok she later revealed she’s 55) A-list actress (back in the 80′) who, when she hit 50, was suddenly spat to the side lines by a cruel industry. More than her escapades as an actress, performer & entertainer I enjoyed Anne’s honest pearls of wisdom on motherhood, being broke & having suffered physical abuse. Of course she triumphed & but what I liked was that she doesn’t sugar coat anything about her journey & her confidence & charisma are enviable.
Jozi only got prettier as the sun went down…
The next talk was hosted by the team from Pure Aesthetics, a medi spa with a holistic focus on skin health based inside the Linksfield Medi Clinic. Dr Gabriel Dorcus, a plastic & reconstructive surgeon (I’ve always wanted to meet one!) was up 1st & gave a couple of short pointers about the causes of ageing namely intrinsic (chronological) & extrinsic (environmental/lifestyle) factors. He shared easy tips for what to look for in a plastic surgeon. I liked this quote that he used: “gravity is the gift that keeps on giving”. Now isn’t that the truth!
On the less invasive side, Ingrid Katz a qualified therapist introduced us to advanced high performance skin care brands like QMS & Otiphi. I liked her philosophy of seeing your skin as investment that will reward you if you look after it. Amazingly Pure Aesthetics offered every lady in attendance a complimentary treatment this weekend, so watch out for my post on that. I’ve always been curious about the medicated/medicinal side of beauty industry so I can’t wait for this!
The food was top notch just as you’d expect from Randlords.
The tapas included salmon with mashed potatoes, chicken curry (above), gnocci, thai fish cakes & it just kept coming!
Dessert was so yummy I found some of it on my dress when I got home – true story!
We were spoilt eve further with lucky draws with amazing product hampers from Skin Aesthetics and tickets to Anne Power’s movie premier next week. Not to mention these goodie bags.
A big thanks to the brand-ed team for having me. I know they’re already well into planning the next event, so I will keep you posted of those details.
