With every day that we get closer to the 20th June I get more excited & nervous. It literally is that feeling of being a kid the night before Christmas. My heart did a little summersault when our route was recently published although most of these places I’ve not heard of. I mentioned in my last post Malawi was pulled from the route & in news just its been replaced by (wait for it!)…. Zanzibar!
So this is the plan of action…
Day 1 – Departure from Nairobi to Amboseli National Park & Kilimanjaro
Day 2 – Amboselli to Ngorongoro Crater
Day 3 – Ranger in Serengeti
Day 4 – Lake Manyara to Arusha
Day 5 – Arusha to Bagamoio
Day 6 – Bagamoio to Zanzibar – Special Tasks & Challenges
Day 7 – Bagamoio to Lindi Bay (Southern Tanzania)
Day 8 – Crossing Ruvuma River into Northern Mozambique to Mocimboa de Praia
Day 9 – Mocimboa to Pemba – Special Tasks & Challenges
Day 10 – Pemba to Ilha de Mocambique
Day 11 – Ilha de Mocambique – Special Tasks & Challenges
Day 12 – Ilha to Caia – crossing the mighty Zambezi
Day 13 – Caia to Lake Chicamba via Gorongoza
Day 14 – Lake Chicamba to Harare
Day 15 – Harare to Mt Selinda – Special Tasks & Challenges
Day 16 – Mt Selinda to Inhassoro via Espagungbeira
Day 17 – Inhassoro to Inhambane –
Day 18 – Inhambane – Special Tasks & Challenges
Day 19 – Inhambane to Xai Xai
Day 20 – Xai Xai to Macanetta
Day 21 – Macanetta to Nelspruit
Day 22 – Homeward Bound
Errr, no idea what the Special Tasks & Challenges are but no doubt its going to be fun!
My visa & vaccinations are done & I have my malaria tablets but I still have some odds & ends to do like getting hiking boots, cargo pants & some paraphernalia like a head lamp. You know, things I never imagined I’d be in the market for 🙂
We have a send off event on Thursday the 20th June and then fly out to Kenya the next morning. We’ll be in the super capable hands of the team of De Rust & they even did a trial run of the route for us a while back as part of the prep for our journey. Yup, they’re organized, check out how it went…
Now you see why I’m excited! It’s going to be ah-mazing!!
Unfortunately I will not have internet access to blog on Wiscellaneous over this time but remember that you can follow the adventure on Ford South Africa’s Facebook page and on the Ranger Odyssey site (where all 10 of us will be blogging daily).
Any & all camping/4x4ing/Africa travel tips are so welcome!
