It’s 1:21 am I should be long, long gone but I’ve just finished packing (& repacking) for what’s bound to be 21 unforgettable days driving 8000 km through 6 African countries.
I’ve said that line (21 days, 6 countries, 8000 km) so often but even as I type this it’s unbelievable & so insane that I’m doing this. Me who didn’t own a pair of cargo pants to take along on this trip until yesterday. Me who’s always briefed my husband that 4 star is a compromise and that if there wasn’t somewhere for me to plug my GHD in, I wouldn’t be going 🙂 I don’t think I have quite wrapped my head (i.e. my fro) around what’s ahead yet, it’s so hard to imagine, but I do know it’s going to be pretty awesome & I’m so lucky to be a part of this adventure. The continent has been on my bucket list forever. How could I ever have imagined I would get to see her like this…
I cannot wait to see my team in the morning (yes in a few hours!). We have all been chatting away & actually gotten closer since we last saw each other at the boot camp 3 weeks ago. If you missed my last post, check out the route we will be driving here. We haven’t really been told what’s in store for tomorrow (today) but I’m imagining it to be a press/send off event of sorts (including a stay over) & we then fly out to Nairobi on Friday morning & start driving on Saturday.
My bag is on 20kg, so mission accomplished for tonight! Nap time…
PS unfortunately this blog will grind to a halt while I’m away. I had
high hopes delusions of grandeur that I would prepare & schedule posts to go out while I was away but with all the prep for the trip & other life admin it just didn’t happen. Of course I will fill you in on the scoop as soon as I’m back (& rested!).
Myself & all the other contestants will however be blogging of the Ford Ranger Odyssey site daily & do check the Ford South Africa Facebook page for updates as well.
In the meanwhile be sure to follow me on Twitter (@wisaal), Instagram (wisaal) & Facebook (Wiscellaneous) for updates where I’ll be posting if I find any wi-fi
Chat to you in July!
Here is one last look at the boot camp weekend (at which the final 10 were chosen for this Africa trip).
