Morrells – a little French country in the concrete jungle…

Just before life got crazy with my traveling & house move I was lucky enough to get a last-minute invite to join a press trip at Morrells Boutique Hotel in Northcliff. Haven’t heard of them? I hadn’t either until I pulled up at Morrells and realised I’d passed by a gazillion times and always wondered  what was behind these walls…

Our dinner setting – how gorgeous?!

I immediately thought it looked more than good enough for a wedding, which incidentally I later found out they’re quite good at…

The gardens are vast – think  lavender bushes, rose gardens and olive groves. If we had more time I’d have loved to catch a tan while reading – it’s that kind of spot…

So many antique pieces I couldn’t keep my eyes off..

More of the Manor House

There were fresh roses (from their garden) everywhere. I’m a sucker for this kind of detail…

The property has grown to be over 2 parts. The main section, the Farmhouse (7 rooms) is where the main reception & most of the amenities are located. Walking through this opulent space, its hard to imagine that this stood derelict just 6 years ago when Morrells was born. Literally across the road is the Manor House (a further 7 suites). Without exaggeration its easily walking distance but of course we were beyond spoiled and shuttled over in a vintage Mercedes (reminded me so much of my wedding day).

  • The very best thing about Morrells is that it’s just around the corner. No padkos required – 15/20 minutes from Sandton & surrounds – it feels like a well-kept secret!

  • One of my favourite things about my room was the bathroom and in particular the shower. It could stand 6 people easily & had great water pressure & double shower heads
  • I love the way the place has been done up. The décor is warm, inviting & authentic. In fact I got so many décor ideas & inspiration just looking around…
  • Another good surprise was the spa – originally started with brides in mind for a one-stop service experience. It’s a cute space that can take up to 2 guests simultaneously or you can have your treatments in room as well. I was booked in for a massage and went with no expectations. I like my pressure firm otherwise it just feels like I’m being tickled and the masseuse over delivered hitting all my tight spots and knots – thoroughly enjoyed this! Expect brands like Elemis and RegimA on the full service treatment menu – they don’t skimp…

  • That I had to check out in the morning! Seriously there was nothing to not like…

My suite, the Figaro Suite. I got in late & was super tired so I was really glad they’d taken the liberty to do the turn down already…

My bathroom (easily as big as the room itself) was the kind you want to just hang out in – huge!

Just as I’m getting into bed there’s a knock on my door & its my butler (!) with this luxe hot & cookies chocolate delivery!

It was late but I was so keen to see more so I showed myself around the Manor House

The courtyard overlooking my suite. Not a shabby view to wake up to…

Eggs Florentine – perfectly done (they baked the muffins they’re on in-house too)…

Lately (maybe it’s because of my own move to suburbia) I have a thing for gardens…

Yes really, there are chickens roaming freely and waking you at dawn. I wasn’t joking when I said this is a piece of the countryside smack in the middle of the city…

My last stop before check out was their gift store. So many beautiful & different things on offer. Forget gifts  – I want them all!

I sat down for a late leisurely breakfast after my massage and before I even noticed that there was a menu, their new Executive Chef Tyrone Geduld came over to chat ask what I wanted to eat. Completely unaware that there was a warm breakfast menu  (with set options) I blurted out the first thing I could think of  – eggs Florentine. Without hesitation he went off to get my order in, keeping me updated all the way. “The muffins are just coming out of the oven” he said what felt like 10 minutes later. That’s when I stumbled across the actual breakfast menu on one of the other tables & eggs Florentine was nowhere on it. I felt really bad for (unintentionally) being a difficult customer, but such is the spirit of the staff at Morrells. They’ll pretty much do whatever you need…

A quick overnight stay at Morrells made me feel like I stepped out of the chaos of life for just a moment – much-needed!

PS Morrels have also recently launched their Bistro & do a high tea service as well – its the prefect escape that’s really just around the corner but feels hours from the craze that is Jozi…
