Ivory Coast’s natural hair movement is turning heads

One of my favourite things has got to be when my husband send me links to natural hair articles, vlogs or even recently he PVR’ed something hair related he thought I might like (yes, #HeCanStay).

So he sent me this piece that was published on CNN.com  & the 1st thing I did was skip right to the video…

Many of the issues and the stories are not unlike the ones you’ve heard before but 2 things stood out for me:

  1. the word nappy. In the article they mention reappropriating the meaning to be a mash-up of natural & happy. It made me think about where the word nappy actual came from. I googled it & page 1 results were all diaper related!
  2. that there’s  launched a natural hair consultancy in Abidjan.

As for girls starting to use relaxers from the age of 3 – no comment.

Be kind to your hair!
