Our decadent staycation at The Maslow Hotel

There’s a joke I keep hearing on Twitter that says “home is where the wi-fi connects automatically” & I’ve been lucky to be at The Maslow so often lately for launches and events etc. that it’s true! If you live in Jozi you’ve driven by The Maslow plenty – they’re on the corner of Grayston & Rivonia, a revamped 4 star Sun International property that opened up in Jan this year (feels longer to me).

When they invited us over on Sunday for the night it really felt nothing short of going home in a way. Being a business hotel and having been there mostly during the week before this, I was so surprised at the chilled vibes in the hotel on Sunday with lots of families around making the most of the weekend.

Overzealous, we got in early and were shown to the Wayfarer Lounge while our room (a suite we later found out!) was being readied. I’d passed by the Wayfarer Lounge before and always wondering what “that fancy place” was. It’s a sleek pause area, much like a business class lounge for guests arriving early (or leaving late) to grab a bite, charge your devices and even have a shower if you need to.

  • My number one favourite thing about The Maslow is summed up below (found on my TL this morning incidentally):

I couldn’t have put it better myself. There are so many unexpected touches that it leans toward being 5 star in many places

  • Our suite left nothing to be desired. It had a king size extra length bed (I’m 1.78m – it matters!), a 2nd (guest) loo, Molten Brown amenities (I’d forgotten how luxurious this brand is), separate lounge area, 2 flat screen TV’s, an espresso maker & a private balcony. No complaints here…

  • As a blogger, I carry 2 phones each with a spare battery and a tablet at all times. Being connected isn’t optional and The Maslow‘s wi fi service is really exceptional. (I’ve heard it’s the fastest in  Sandton). Sign up takes less than a minute, it’s uncapped and the signal is pretty good even when we wondered off into the garden for a walk and when we sat out on our balcony. Big win.
  • The red meat is halaal (Karan beef) which is a big deal to me. When I tweeted it, one of my friends replied thanking me for the info & saying it should be a public service announcement! 🙂 So we took full advantage of the Sunday Braai that afternoon (more in my next post).

  • Just one thing I would change and that’s more plug points at each bedside table .That said I have more gadgets than any normal person should have!

Sunrise from our balcony on Monday morning – who said Sandton’s not pretty?

How pretty is this turn down service? I’m a sucker for details…

I could have slept in for hours more. The blackout curtains worked like a charm and I later found out that all the rooms are sound proof! Like I said before, lots of little unexpected things makes the Maslow a whole lot more than 4 star…

If I ran the brand

  • I’d probably move in and put my do not disturb sign on the door. Permanently.

Need to know

  • The Maslow have a neat special on for shopaholics called the Fashion, Fun & Food weekend that includes bed & breakfast, a shuttle to and from Sandton City, Iman make-over vouchers at Stuttafords and a bottle of Lacuna house wine with rates from R1299 per room (R650 pp for perspective not bad at all!)

Inevitably I’ll be back at The Maslow soon no doubt for my next meeting/launch/drinks session – I just can’t seem to stay away!

PS Like what you see? I have a little surprise coming for my readers courtesy of the Maslow soon. Stay tuned 🙂
